errr.. .helices.
errr.. .helices.
Helixes or helices get a lot of atoms in a small space as compared to sheets or loops. Triple helixes seem to work better than quadruple helixes for complex numerological reasons that escape me.
As far as orthography goes, I've been leaning toward "helixes" since we're using English and not ancient Greek. But I just realized I'm comfortable saying the plural of "matrix" is "matrices" and not "matrixes. So much for consistency.
Doesn't that bug you a bit? It feels like it leaves the creativity out if everything ends up being 3/4 helices. At that point it would just be a matter of a recipe to create a 3 helix shape, move them into position, and try every rotation until you get the highest score.
… or buries the most whatevers.
I've been obsessed with playing with this app for the past few months. It feels like I have a few shapes I play around with but I don't know how they play out.
It would be nice to be able to submit a few shapes for each round rather than "this is my highest scoring shape." Because I may try to see how a few different designs look and shake out.
You can explicitly put many different solutions
on the Foldit server. I think the limits right
now are 10 for yourself, 10 for your group, and
5 for the scientists. Foldit also automatically
sends your latest solutions to the server
periodically when you are playing online. This
lets the site keep track of your top solo and
evolver scores. I have been told that at the
end of each puzzle, the scientists look at
your best solo and evolver solutions plus
the 5 solutions you shared with scientists.
I think they also use many of the solutions
automatically saved to the server in plots
like at https://fold.it/portal/node/2006103
