New Foldit Interface

We're committed to making the new interface as useful as possible. The plan is to continue to roll out bug fixes and improvements (e.g. see the Dec 13th devprev release) - in large part these are based on the feedback that we've been receiving from players. We're keeping an internal list of things people have mentioned. If you have examples of where the new UI isn't working for you, we'd love to hear them. (Laundry lists are fine :-) We won't guarantee we'll exactly match suggestions (e.g. "bring back the original interface" isn't really in the cards), but we do take your feedback seriously, and will attempt to address any specific pain points you bring up.

I have a feeling that the new interface is for the ease of the designers not the players.
Speaking as an instructional designer this is a massive fail.
You have done a huge change and expect that a blog post is going to be able to help folders transition to the new site.
Yes, you have improved some aspects of the game but this should have been done in micro steps (with a new release every two month) or you should have created a walkthrough step by step video of how everything works and posted that on the front page. Too many changes at once, especially to an interface you've been using for years, provides too many pain points for learners.

For example mode? Where is it? How do I change something to a helix now? Where did all my recipes go? Hate how frozen works now. I do like the shake and wiggle button.

i see that my previous posts have been deleted. may i ask why? is it bc i was the first person to express displeasure with the 'new interface'? i gave some constructive feedback, too. no commentary, just deletion, eh? well, i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who has been critical of this. we're not wrong. you made mistakes. deleting the posts of people who point that out to you is a bad look, to say the least. i'm truly flabbergasted. shame on you. no wonder this happened the way it did.

Sorry for the delayed reply! Unfortunately we have no record of a previous comment from you on this page. I've checked with the rest of the Foldit team and nobody recalls such a comment. The comment may have been deleted by a community moderator.

I assure you the Foldit team welcomes positive and negative feedback from players–except for comments that contain offensive or obscene language. Constructive feedback (e.g. with suggestions for improvement) is particularly helpful. If you still have feedback to contribute, I hope you will repost it here!

As a reminder to all, discussion on the Foldit website is community-driven, and we rely on community moderators to keep discussion friendly and civil. Comments that violate our community rules may be removed by moderators without notice.

I do not understand the new user interface at all. It requires some sort of shorthand versus the intuitive grid layout. This may be my step away from this. That's the problem with changing interfaces on users of software. It can have a dramatic effect on user experience.

I'd been using Fold.it for a year or so and now I can't visualize what steps I normally take. It says no selection when I perform actions which does not make sense. Everything horizontally across the bottom with no labels. It feels like one person's opinion because they've been using the program for many years and eventually migrated to using keyboard shortcuts for everything. It's a departure from a graphical experience. You might as well make the whole program command line at this point.

instead of the feeling of maintaining 2 interfaces, it could've been done where it is completely freeform to customize way you want it to work. That way you're not pinned to any one particular interface. Default to something and then let people arrange it however they choose. I just can't understand what is where now.

left clicking makes things turn purple and right clicking automatically freezes. This is awful
