A couple months back, we released an update that allowed you to try out a new interface that we have been working on that was based upon selecting portions of the protein and perform actions on that selection. (Review of that update can be found at http://fold.it/portal/node/986573). We're interested to hear what those who have tried out this new interface think about it, and whether or not it is or could be an improvement over the existing interface.

I can't get the hang of selection - also seems the middle and right buttons do the same freeze/lock thing?
Can't find how to band - and if it's too hard to find easily it's in the wrong place.
I like a mouse-only interface - perhaps the existing pie menu selection use while over a section of the protein, and a different pie-menu selection if you L-click over the background with things like mode change, and the global W,S commands.
Anyway, I keep trying it, and can't find a reason to prefer it over the old interace.
I still use the Old interface the most and only use the new interface sometimes.
New interface
Pros
Undo Graph – bigger and easier to see graph, with the reset buttons from actions.
Movable boxes - panels that you can move to where you like.
Structure manipulation – been able make changes to more then one residue at a time.
Cons
Lock structure buttons – two buttons for the same feature, Middle and right mouse buttons.
Mouse functions -Left mouse button – Selection interface and pulls together
Old interface
Pros
Pie menu – The feature buttons are in the same area that you are working in, no need to move the cursor to the bottom of the screen.
Pulls – faster and easier.
Cons
Fixed boxes - ( panels)
Structure manipulation
What I really like is that the new interface isn't modal, i.e. I can have all my windows/bars open at once. If the old interface behaved this way, I'd never use the new one.
New interface options.
New interface options would help make the switch from the old interface to the new interface easier, by adding the features (parts) that players like and are comfortable using from the old interface, giving us better control. Eg Mouse Functions
