Foldit is a game you can play in almost any computer laptop or desktop of the 3 last years.
You don't need to interrupt your current occupation : read your mail, uptdate your blog, upload your pictures, listen to radios… some software can lag a little more than usual.
You don't need to uninstall any application.
670 is hard to play by hand like it is . By the way, you have to remember that Foldit is not made to use only the power of your computer(s) with scripts, see Boinc rosetta for that : http://boinc.bakerlab.org
Err, Hanto, do you want to say, that my computer is not normal or that I am not normal? I think the question is: What is normal? Do you make the rules what is normal? So I am happy to be not normal.
And yes, it' s like auntdeen said, it's a family and working computer, not optimized for playing foldit, but it is running well. And I think I play not too bad with my normal computer and small resources, at least a little better than the one and only normal man.
Thats what she said and thats enough!
In MY case with limited blind vision, 670 is hehaving like most mutable puzzles, especially when co-opted with normal puzzles like 669. YES I get client mis-behaviors on 670 ALONE. however they are easily recovered from and SO FAR, the have not crashed the entire compouter. which sometimes does happen over a simple IRC disconnect.
Presently 8 clients on 699, NO issues AT ALL and I am very close to taking over #2 team at the time of writing.
Presently 6 clients on 670, yesterday with ONLY two clients absolutly NO issues, but I do admit to what I consider toIn be normal mutable client issues on 6 clients in combination with aforementioned 8 clients on 669.
In all my time on foldit, due to my experiences in Korea or simply because I didn't DEMAND absolute perfection, I have always allowed the assumed experts to make decisions regarding the future of the client (( notice I didn't say " game " ). The client is taking approx 600 to 800 KBs per client, always has been and I assume it will always be, unless devs decide otherwise. It is NOT my job to decide what the DEVs to. It is MY job to let you all know what the past was like. Luckily I have good wifi now. I can speak with some small authority
ALL mutable pussles are to hard on ANY computer, but please do beg the DEVs for a fix, because when you do, and they supply the fix, I will be running 12 670s, not just 6, and that is including the current 8 669s. Is that what you want?? However I do know the power of people who do not care about anything except themselves and THEIR group.
So as always I will loose this discussion. No biggee to me, as I will find another way to win the battle between large teams and small soloiest and small teams… Thank you AD
I noticed one of my words, can't correct it, sorry, apologize greatly
I would say if you can run 2 clients of 670 with no issues, that's what you should do. You are obviously exceeding the capability of your PC when running more clients, regardless of how "NORMAL" or "PERFECT" you think your setup is.
Thanks for your posts, everyone. We're working on getting this sorted out. Sit tight.
Some of the fixes for disulfides in symmetry now in devprev should have sped up some of the basic tools in 670 (at least move, wiggle, shake, and pull).
This has been released in the recent update.
