Got devprev update and still crashing - this did not fix the problem on windows 10 laptops
Agree with jamiexq. Still not fixed on my win 10 laptop.
I assume people experiencing this issue have already checked for updates to their audio drivers ?
Has anyone tried rolling back the driver to and older version ?
In another game my daughter plays that was experiencing openAL errors, this solved the crashing issues. from what i understand the redistributable called by the game was not compatible with the 3D sound settings in the newest driver. Perhaps disabling 3D sounds would also fix this.
I have installed all the latest drivers including audio drivers on my laptop. I have not tried rolling back to an older audio driver. All other apps that use audio work fine.
One reason I haven't tried older audio drivers is because I've found foldit is much more stable without audio initialized. Except for puzzle 1266 (Crystal Symmetry) I've have zero crashes in two weeks.
If I want sound for other apps I can disable audio drivers, run foldit instance(s), then enable audio drivers. A small price to pay for no crashes.
May also want to try disabling enhancements rather than having to stop and start device all the time. In the taskbar search, type 'Sound' and select Sound Control Panel item from the list of results. The Sound properties box will open. Under the Playback tab, right-click the Default Device Speakers/Headphones whatever you are using and select Properties. Under enhancements there is an option to disable sound enhancements.
Sound enhancements were already disabled. A hot fix was released yesterday to disable audio. I ran it for a few hours with audio drivers enabled and no crashes. Will run it all today and see what happens.
Those who had no audio issues will want to take note on how many crashes occur before or after yesterday's hot fix. I think there will be less crashes with audio disabled.
