I had just completed the new Reaction Design campaign, and hit the arrow "Let's go", which brought up the scientific puzzle menu. I selected 1855, play, CRASH. Files attached. I had deleted the prior debug.txt before starting this client, so it should be good.
Note that I had hovered over the ligand and pressed shift-Q to zoom in on the ligand when this happened.
This crash also happened to me too, and for me, I tried opening 1855 for three attempts today, and it did crash for all three attempts. It crashed when the “Foldit Puzzles for Science - Loading…” screen was showing. Also, the “Foldit has previously not started correctly. If this problem persists please install the latest version” dialog popped up with an OK button for at least 2 of the 3 attempts. I forgot whether it popped up on the 3rd attempt. In the log.txt file, the third to last line had the word “SMILES”, and there were 2 lines after that until the end of the log.txt file.
I think that the 1855 puzzle data that is loaded automatically from the server has a defect, and the one that can be downloaded manually from the Foldit website at fold.it does not have a defect, because of what the dialog said.
I think it would be helpful if you could mention whether, in your case, the crash can be repeated for 2 or 3 times. If the crash can be repeated for 2 or 3 times, a possible solution to your problem would be to download 1855 from the website again at https://fold.it/portal/node/2009845 . I hope this possible solution helps!

I am playing on a PC with Windows 10. Client crashes immediately upon attempting to open puzzle 1855. 3 attempts so far with no success. Also tried going to the puzzle menu from a client already opened to puzzle 1853. As soon as I selected puzzle 1855, the client crashed.
Redownloading the puzzle from the Foldit website solved the crashing problem.

I've the same crashing problem in Linux Ubunto 16, I succeded to work on this puzzle untill a last crash. Now, it crashes when trying to open 1855.
Then I just opened the page of the puzzle and I started Foldit again. Don't ask me why but now it opens (?!)
