The rebuild in current devprev (after opening the second time) may or may not be better than Main for rebuilding by hand - mostly you are just jumping through different hoops, imho.

However, I ran a test on a rebuild script which has been adapted to work with NC.

I loaded a loose and early version of my handfolded first round denovo into both a Main and a devprev client, and set the behavior identically in both, for the second round puzzle.

I ran that rebuild script with the same parameters in both. Three hours later, the Main client had gained 100+ points, but the devprev client had not gained even a .001 fraction.

Using Mac OS 10.7.5:
