Hi IM, The answer to the above is yes, the scores are correct and up to date. However, the chat facility status is unchanged. Interesting n'est pas? It is irksome, but I am well aware that unless it is a global problem, I may have to put up with it. I dare say that I could re load the Foldit software, but since that involves the tedium of repeating the intro excercises, I am reluctant to try it. Hey ho. Many thanks for your efforts.

Merf.

Merf, It's worth a shot to get another copy of Foldit and run it just to see if the chat will work. Let me know how that goes.

Also, using an alternative IRC client may be worth considering. It's actually more convenient than using the built-in one, IMHO. You can find your IRC login credentials in your profile on this website. Server is 128.95.1.228. Be sure to login with alternative IRC client before starting Foldit.

Well, I tried re loading, and the only result is that I am now going through the tedium of the intro excercises again. Nothing else has changed. I can not load recipies into my cookbook either. I tells me I need to log on to foldit (which I am) so clearly some portion of the software is not seeing me at all. I do not see what else I can do at my end except to keep buggering on as W.C. used to say, but it is vexing.

Oh, and another thing, although I has saved my best solutions in the expectation that I would be able to call them up once the reload was complete, they are lost, which means that I have several thousand points to regain…..
Whether it is relevant or not, I don't know, but I'm running the 64bit version of W7 although nothing else seems affected.
Also ticking the IRC box fails to achieve a thing. It always fails.

Hello again, an experiment Mimi and I tried yesterday has convinced me that my difficulties are local. That is, that they are a function of my laptop. I was able to log in successfully on Mimi's computer. The system "saw" me in the normal way. This means, I guess, that my difficulties are "invisible" to the system which is tough for me but a relief for the system administrators. It's an ill wind………..
Thanks for your efforts IM.
Cordially Merf.

Merf, you said, if works fine on Mimi's PC, on your PC not.
So, did you compare the types of internet-connections?

On my sister's PC (Win7), I also had some connection problems, but it was the router.
Do you use fixed or automatic IPs for LAN?

Sometimes, it helped deactivating the Internet-protocol IPv7 (the newer one), keeping only the IPv4, but this might have been s special solution on my sister's PC.

@ILYA.makedon:
Does foldIt use a special port for traffic which should be opened by the router?

Merf Lv 1

Hi CG, no I did not compare internet connection types. As far as I know, I use auto IPs. I will check which IP I am using. I have just returned from a vacation, so things will have to hang fire a bit. Many thasnks for your hints. Cordially, Merf.

Okay, I'll hang on.
As I bought my sister an extra LAN-adapter (LAN before was on-board, some of them can cause problems) and gave a fixed IP (similar to this from the router, but the last digit different).

She also had some problems with chat- or download-programs before.

I think, in respect to LAN/WAN, Win7 behaves more like Vista, and Vista has it's problems with LAN/WAN things TMHO, or let's say more than WinXP.
