May 27 2011 update not working

I'm experiencing a terrible flicker in my splash screen or nothing at all (splash screen goes completely white). I continued with the traditional update, and then just re-downloaded foldit again from the site when that didn't work. I've reconfigured my firewall and my port settings. Nothing seems to work. Can someone please verify.

Also, does the fresh copy of foldit crash before it updates?

Do you have any other games that you can run to see if this issue is only with foldit? None of the changes we've made should be able to cause the bug you're describing (though of course, it could just be one of those really weird bugs).

my foldit initially crashed on me. And so I restarted. There was an update available, so I allowed it to update. It has been the same way since.

I do have a jmol viewer installed..because I'm attempting to use my mini rosetta model to generate .xyz files from my structure prediction recipes. I've also experienced difficulty with this viewer as well, as it seems to flicker.

You might try updating your graphics drivers. If this issue is happening in other 3D programs, it could be a driver/hardware problem.

I updated my other machines (after great apprehension) and they seem to be working fine. I crashed on this one machine before the update, and it hasn't been working since. (even with multiple reinstalls)

The problem was the compression scheme I was running.

Originally, I had both FXT1 and S3TC compression enabled.

S3TC was adopted by Microsoft as part of the DirectX (Microsoft) standard, in September 1998. FXT1 (which is supported by OpenGL) is generally considered a competitor to S3TC. So I disabled it.
