Rank Up/Down messages no longer part of the game?

I had to reload the game in its entirety. The version I now have doesn't show the Rank Up or Rank Down messages.

Did we get rid of them? Or do I have some setting that's wonky?

Also, I no longer see the brief "+x" messages, when whatever you've done increases your score by one or more points.

Further, when I hit CTRL-SHIFT-9, I see no message telling me that my structures have been saved. Nor does hitting CTRL-9 tell me my structures have been loaded. They perform the functions, but I no longer see the message telling me so.

That was it. Having been badgered by ugly, unwanted pop-ups on most other sites I visit, I had reflexively unclicked that box. (Who the bejeezus WANTS pop-up spam-vertising?)
