trim tool, or fun with phosphates

Puzzle 2572 has an RNA chain formed into a kind of double helix. Much of the RNA is distant from the protein part.

So the temptation is to trim away the distant RNA.

So, I gave SelectoPro 1.3 the values "1-507, 537-565, 579-609" with no existing selections.

But when I trim the resulting selection, the error popup "error running trimming operation…" appears, and nothing gets trimmed.

This is disappointing.

It's possible to select and trim only the RNA, in effect removing the protein. Or select just the protein, and trim away the RNA.

But it doesn't seem to be possible to trim just part of the RNA.

Maybe related, but attempting to cut RNA gives an "action not permitted on RNA" popup, and no cut.

Also, the chain logic in SelectoPro fails on the RNA part, but it's OK for the protein sections. An update is in the works which would make SelectoPro phosphate-aware.

Another fun fact noted elsewhere is that structure.GetDistance ( a, b ) gives the distance between atom 1 of segment a and atom 1 of segment b, when applied to RNA.
