can't get Fold.it started for my Ubuntu Eee PC

I've downloaded the zipped Fold.it tar ball to my local machine, unzipped it and changed to the directory. But when i tried to "run Foldit from this directory" as was instructed in the README, it didn't run. Instead, i see only this message:

zsh: exec format error: ./Foldit

could anyone help me understand what that means and how i can get Fold.it running?
