How you do on puzzles: A bit of perspective

FYI, for those who think because you see the top scores so "high" above you you're not "worthy"…

Please try this

divide your raw  puzzle score by the top solution

then multply the result by 100

now, subtract that number from 100

this is the percent difference between your score and the top competitor.

In math terms that's:

100 - [ (your score/top score) x 100 ] = percent difference in fold

I hope this gives you a better perspective about how you're doing. Just because someone else gets the top score doesn't mean you've done poorly, it only means that someone else did a little better…

I happened to come across your encouraging article. Thank you for making me feel better about how bad/well I am doing as it gets frustrating when no serious points can be 'knocked' out of the protein after several hours of trying and having another 100 players ahead of me. I have just been pointed to the Wiki entries by a teammate and have found the folding hints by the top players very useful. I still need to get to grips with the sidechains, though.
