Question about playing offline

I've been playing Foldit for just a few days now, and have been working on one of the beginner puzzles. I don't have an internet connection at home, and can only access the internet by traveling to a public wifi with my netbook. I'd really like to participate and get on the high score list, in fact I've beat the current high score of the puzzle I'm working on by several points, but when loading the save up in online mode, I'm forced to gain one more point to be considered an evolver.

I've read this page http://foldit.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_play_offline , but that method would only work on my 1ghz netbook, while my machine at home is quite a bit faster at 2.4ghz. Is there any solution to this, or will I just have to crunch that last 1 point on my netbook, sitting at a wifi location every time I want to upload a high score?

Why does it work this way, is it to prevent people from taking credit for someone elses work?

It seems now that there is no way for me to get any credit for my work on this protein… bummer. Its the "Easy Mini Freestyle", the current high score is 8160, my score was 8179 and I planned to keep working on it. I evolved that last point, uploaded for myself and scientists, but no credit on the scoreboard. I created a group for myself, tried to load up save, and it says I can't load one from another group : Im not gonna start all over, so I guess I'll work on a different one. I just wish I had know this before I spent the time on it.
