Will the source code of the project be released at some point?
Will the source code of the project be released at some point?
You would be VERY stupid not to release the source code, since your project is not made to make money it shouldn't make a difference to you. And, if you would release the source code then a HUGE number of GNU/Linux distributions would probably pick up Fold It and make a package extending your user-base considerably.
Yes, release source code and we'll take the problem of linux distribution and multiple architectures ourselves.
It would be brilliant to open source the code.
FOSS fanboy insults don't help anyone. I'm not going to presume to know your intentions well enough to call you stupid, but I do agree with kiputnik's conclusion: if you do so, people will probably take care of the distribution for you.
With backers like Adobe and Microsoft I'm not so sure how open the mindset of the developers are. It does seem like thre can only be gain from setting up a public source repository.
Any Fold.it devs out there?
Hoping to get a response, the devs must look at these boards occasionally.
We would love to release the source code, and we certinly will, eventually, most likely once the game stabilizes and we come out of beta which will not be any time soon.
Part of the problem is that the biochemistry code (Rosetta) that evaluates the score, and does things like wiggle and shake has it's own process of distribution and even licensing through University of Washington. This precludes us from releasing the entire game outright until we work out this process.
I see that there has not been any activity in this thread in over a year. Does that mean the source is still not available?
then get back to the real world of science and donate to it the cause. Objective, not Subjective. Horray!!
