AWS Move and Upcoming Downtime

Good news part 2, everyone!

Remember this announcement regarding our move to Amazon Web Services (AWS)? Well, it turns out we're going to need some downtime after all. This downtime is to make a consistent, full backup - something you can't do while the server is running. Further down the line, we'll make the actual switch, which should require (minimal) downtime.

Upcoming downtime: Thursday, 21 July
Expected downtime: 12 hours. (Could be more, could be less. If it's less, we could need to take it down during that timeframe again if there are issues.)
Downtime timeframe: 1100 - 2300 Pacific Time (aka Foldit time).
The Time Zone Converter: Right this way!
Services available: None. The website, chat, forums, and game will be completely unavailable during this time.
Puzzle Status: We are intending to extend the end time of Puzzle 1260 by 24 hours (which is longer than the actual downtime expected).
How will I get updates if there are any delays to restored service? Please follow Twitter and/or Facebook for updates. Please do not mail CGS, members of the team or inkycatz for updates. Due to the number of you, there's little chance we would be able to reply to everyone individually (as much as we want to).

We'd also like to extend a note of appreciation to Amazon for providing initial funding and helping us with the project, and of course, your patience during this outage.

just out of interest -I assume there will be no requirement to create any sort of new account - or need for additional info……so this is purely a server move - nothing more?

This downtime isn't for the actual server transfer. That will come at a later date

This downtime is to make a consistent, full backup - something you can't do while the server is running.

It'll be straighforward and hopefully seamless. This is the DB backup as jflat mentioned below. I've also adjusted the post accordingly.

Most(all?) of the IRC users use a hardcoded IP-adress.
It might be handy to get a DNS name for this before the switch.

Just a thought.
