The buddies feature, which lets you connect to other players as buddies, hasn't been working well for a while. But now it has been restored! You should be able to send buddy requests to other players and reply to them on the website. The ability to add buddies in-game will be in the next update. It's easier to check on the scores of your buddies and get notifications when you pass them in rank (or they pass you)!
