Community Rules

Greetings, everyone.

I want to bring to your attention two additions to the Community Rules:

  • Do not use scripts to copy data from other players or external sources.
  • Do not actively use multiple scoring accounts simultaneously. </ul> Needless to say, these actions circumvent the intention of Foldit and jeopardize its scientific goals. This has a severe negative impact on the community as well and will not be tolerated. Please be aware that we are actively monitoring for violations. If you have been found to be violating any area of the Community Rules or Terms of Use you may be issued a warning, receive a suspension, or have your account deleted outright depending on the severity of the situation. With that said, please be conscientious as you write and share your scripts going forward. If you have any doubts about your scripts or actions, please refer back to the Community Rules, or send me or the devs a PM to double check. As a last note, we are here to have fun and contribute to real science. Thank you all in advance for continuing to help make this a great game and scientific success. Happy folding!

Unless I'm missing something, there's no user name attached to this node's creator.

I'm not sure what would be considered copying data. So does that restrict the use of public utility scripts that allow you to key in a secondary structure? Where is the line between acceptable and forbidden? Maybe fleshing out that particular rule would be useful.

I agree with gitwut re: fleshing these issues out a bit, the description of the things we're not-to-do is a bit hazy.

Looking at the "Community Rules" doesn't really help as there isn't any deeper explanation of the above. Giving a couple of examples for each of the issues would help.

Thanks gitwut, my utility program allows copying out the results of my own structure edits (it's how I produce those "999 comment structs" recipes) but works just as well to grab the structs from a team-mate's save. Thoughts?

Not sure why my name isn't listed, but I am the author. As tamirh mentioned, please PM one of us and we will be happy to answer your questions. Thanks!

How about segment (candidate) lists?
My scripts use them to in- or exclude (masking) segs before doing things with them (or leave them as they are).

You could write a script which stores all distances from one seg to another.
then, use a target puzzle and apply bands reproducing the measured distances by setting their lengths.
This could also produce a copy of a puzzle (although wiggling it to fit using thousands of bands might produce a (slightly) different result).

How about that?
