Developer Preview Update

A couple of updates for the Developer Preview:

We've fixed a bug which was causing people's old quicksaves and autosaves to be deleted. Your old saves should now get converted correctly and function as before. While it should be functioning correctly now, we REALLY need people to test this out before it goes to main. If you change to beta after this update and have this issue, please let us know.

Also in this update:

Script logging:
As a script runs, a file is created in the foldit directory named scriptlog..xml. The script log is created when a script is run. Each track has a separate scriptlog. The scriptlog file is overwritten when a second script is run in the same track, so if you want to keep the content, you must externally copy the file somewhere else before starting another script. This file is an XML file (or, more technically, it is an XML file when the script is complete, as the file then has the closing tags). You can use a text editor, web browser, or an XML parser to parse the file.

The scriptlog is readable while the script is running. Programs that read the scriptlog while it is running must be careful not to lock the scriptlog file.

The maximum number of quicksaves slots has been changed from 10 to 100.

Sorry but as yesterday, all my puzzles stay to the beginning, even the beta' ones. Yes my score is written but the pictures of puzzles return to their first forms.

When there has been the last big update few months ago, it happens the same thing. it is discouraged. I don't see if some people have the same problem on blog, and anyone answers me on the last blog.
Can you, the next time, warn 3 days before that you will make an update, and so maybe i could save the puzzles. In normal time i'm nut used to because the puzzles stay as i quit them.

On mac, i don't succeed to cancel the last update. The update of foldit doesn't appear as the others one. It is internally to your program. When i looked on web, i didn't find how to come back.

I ask again: can you tell me how can i find the pictures of the last best scores?
But if i'm the only one who meets this problem, i will understand that you don't answer.

I'm sorry about all the trouble you have had with the Foldit Developer Preview.

To avoid this, you should switch back to the normal mode:

Here are the instructions for switching back, http://fold.it/portal/info/faq

Q: I've had enough of the preview! How do I go back?
A: In your options.txt file (see question on how to try out the Preview), just change your update_group variable back to "main" from "beta".

Sadly this will not resolve your current lost structures problem, but at least next time it won't update until other players have tested it in the Developer Preview (and hopefully most of the bugs have been found).

Sorry about this again, your suggestion of warning 3 days ahead is a good one.

I returned to main menu in option text but i can't see tracks anymore. And i liked beta puzzles. So is is a matter if i return to beta?

The Foldit Developer Preview (aka BETA) is where we preview new an upcoming features before we put them into main.

You can imagine that if we had introduced this "lost previous solutions" bug into main, that would have been even worse than what happened here.

Once the Foldit Developer Preview seems stable enough we will move that update into main.

I'm on a Mac as well, OS 10.5.8 if that helps.

Everything's the same here - no new software, no dodgy browsing. So I'm fairly sure the problem isn't at my end.

I guess I can switch back, but it'd be nice not to have this problem down the line.

Any help?

The startup problems on Mac should be fixed now. The simplest solution to get the new update might be to remove the version-binary.txt from your Foldit data files folder.

Sorry to be a pain, Seth. Foldit does not have a data file folder, or at least my version doesn't. There is no version-binary.txt file anywhere on my system.

What would be the not-so-simple solution?

You should be able to find it with the "Where can I find the Foldit data files?" section in the FAQ on this site. For Mac, Ctrl-click on the app and choose Show Package Contents, then go to Contents/Resources.

You can also re-download the program, but that won't keep your save files.
