Update to Intro Puzzles

We've just posted an update with a new system of events for the intro puzzles. Now the game can respond based on your score, or how far you are from the correct solution, or what actions you take. Currently these events are only used in the intro puzzles, not the science puzzle competitions.

Also, you can now turn off the background music independently of sound effects! This option is in Menu > General Options.

Why was this release not posted for testing in beta before being released to the general user population?

It's obviously broken (hot keys used during wiggle crash the application).

If you had posted here that a new beta was available, it could have been tested, and not released  since it was broken.  I know that it was stated that an announcement of any new beta would be posted well in advance of genereal release.

Why is this so hard for you people?

I'm sorry for the mistake. I didn't realize that we were supposed to announce a beta release on the front page. As it happened, I posted the beta and told the people in chat about it.

How far in advance would you like to have the beta posted before it is released? Once I know, I'll send an email out to the Foldit team letting them know that they should post a news item to announce each beta, and to wait for your specified amount of time before releasing it.

I am able to reproduce the bug you mention and I'll attempt to fix it on Sunday. I'm really sorry that this slipped through.

In the meantime, I've put the release version back to its previous, relatively bug-free state.

You should allow at least a couple of days for those inclined to do the beta testing to notice the announcement and have time to test.  It shouldn't be just before the close of a puzzle - like Thursday night before the normal Friday afternoon closings.

Announcing anything only in chat should be discouraged.  It's just not the appropriate place for that type of thing,    Same thing applies to asking for input on new features -  ask on the forum or feedback area, not in chat.

So, a couple of days, and after a puzzle has closed rather than right before. I'll plan on that, thanks for the recommendation.

I'll also make sure to post a news item for stuff like beta updates, and using the forum for input on new features.

I would like to lend a second voice in support of this improved procedure. I feel it isn't just Brick who wishes for this. I feel there are quite a few others who will be appreciative of this improved sequence of making changes and the improved reliability that will have a greater chance of developing from it.
Thanks,
