3-axis navigation but no 3-axis movements

At current, when applying bands, moving a ligand or nudging, you can move within 2 axes, but not in the "depth", only when applying bands and if there is a segment to snap.
How about a key to hold (or mousewheel like in viewing)to move within the third dimension?
