I know some are interested in the Oculus Rift and other cutting-edge technology, but JMol has simple stereographic viewing with several options: glasses (red + cyan, red + blue, or red + green), cross-eyed, and wall-eyed. Nothing cutting-edge about it, but good enough for viewing molecules. There might even be standard stereographic libraries available. I'd vote for simple and cheap, don't really need "immersive" for Foldit.
After some quick online shopping, it seems GoPro has a stereo mode, so you can buy a 5-pack of GoPro-branded red-blue glasses for $4.99. (And hey, looks like the frames are cardboard, so take that, Google.) A single pair of plastic-framed glasses can be had for $5. It looks like this old-tech 3D is thriving, and "anaglyph" might be a trending search term. The glasses won't work for everyone, but they're a couple of orders of magnitude cheaper than the Rift. Cross-eyed or wall-eyed viewing may work for those with poor color vision. (I'm red-green color weak, but standard glasses still work for me.)
