hmm - The contact map cells should be colored more intuitively, to better correspond with the colored bands. e.g. "green" bands should indicate areas that are okay to explore.

The red to white color scheme of the cells is not communicating the same concept as the color of the bands, so it would be a mistake to try and color it green/red.

The red to white communicates how many points you would get if you had a contact in that cell. The green/red bands communicate whether or not you have a contact between two segments.

Coloring it green/red would confuse these two ideas, which is not what we want.

thanks for that explanation, jflat06. So if two segments are close enough, they are said to be "Contacting" (Indicated by green bands). But if there is no contact (indicated by red bands), then these segments should be moved closer together, in space, in order to create a contact, and achieve the points indicated in the cell, upon meeting the score conditions. Am I correct?
