Please fix it.
Im VERY VERY smart and even I find it very unsatisfying to play then if becomes upsetting because you dont have any fun like before. please fix your game.
Foldit admin team you might well pay attention to Wiz kid's sincere feedback.
Yes, revising software is a no-win situation, and you cannot possibly please everyone. And there is no question that each and every individual change brought forth in the new UI is justified, either from a SW management or perspective or from a functional organization perspective.
However, from the user perspective, the shuffling of icons and screens feels random. Confused users find it very hard to determine if an action has been eliminated, or is simply behind a different menu, or is not present because of a bug. And frankly, the UI is buggy. Your loyal user community, which plays such an important role in the ultimate work product, should not have to experience this much frustration while they contribute. This is a case where the whole UI feels less than the sum of its parts. You can do better.
I am with foldit for ten years now.
Never has been so hellish to do what one wants to do.
Few examples.
you can't select a frozen segment so no move tool.if you select a neighbour unfrozen, move is not precise.
Structure changes are heavy work.
you lose a lot of time to cut
I have lots like these.
it is removing the fun of action.
Give us back the original interface
We're committed to improving the new interface, and we're taking all the bugs and suggestions which people have been posting seriously. If you're not having fun playing, that's a concern and we DO want to address it. But going back to the old dual Original Interface/Selection Interface split isn't something that's really feasible. Despite that, we're committed to fix the new UI to remove issues people are having. Any specifics you have about why the new UI isn't working for you - what can't you do as efficiently, what difficulties you're having with navigation, what issues are sapping your fun, etc. - is something we want to know about. We are keeping a list of all the feedback that people are giving us, and are trying our best to act on those issues. While it might not take the exact form of the original recommendation, we hope that we can come up with a solution which works decently for everyone.
I'll mentioned that all of the functionality in the Original Interface and the Selection Interface should still be present in the new UI. It may be moved a bit, but hopefully the cheatsheet at https://fold.it/portal/node/2012336 can help you locate it. (Do let us know if there's something you're not finding that isn't mentioned there.)
We're also interested in any bugs you find. We've been keeping a list of bugs which have been mentioned on the website and on Discord, and have been working to knock them out. (For example, see the Dec 13th devprev update.) – But we can only address bugs which we're aware of, so if you find any, please report it, either in the Feedback on the website or on the #bugs_and_feedback section of Discord.
We are paying attention to feedback, and we love it when people have specifics. To the extent you could expand on any details about why the new UI frustrates you, or if you have any recommendations on how we could make the new UI better, we do genuinely want to hear about it.
Thank you for the feedback. Knowing specifics about what the pain points are for people is immensely helpful in figuring out how to improve things. Please don't hold back on this sort of constructive feedback: if you have a list, please post the full list. (It's not excessive if you feel it's true.) We are keeping track of all the feedback we're getting, and we do take all of the constructive suggestions seriously. The plan is to continue to work on the issues people are seeing. While going back to the original interface isn't really in the cards, the hope is to make the new interface as useful as both the old Original Interface and the Selection Interface were. Knowing where it's failing for people is the first step to that.
