Thank you Auntdeem for pointing out what my fellow group members already know so well, No I am not at the top very much. Because it is possible that I use my clones to support my group, instead of rushing to the top like some in other groups do. Might as well do what I can at the bottom as I don't have the speedy I7 processors that seem to be making such a killing these days in this game. But you know what I do have, I have 15 clones, 10 on one machine ID and 5 on other machine ID. And each and every one of those folder/clients/clones is devoted to one thing and one thing only. I'm sure you can guess what it is. And please don't ask me.
@Hanto
From your comment above:
"But you know what I do have, I have 15 clones, 10 on one machine ID and 5 on other machine ID."
This is within your definition of reason?!?
Again, for new players re: Tracks
If your purpose is to create the best possible solution to a puzzle, then Tracks will work very well - besides creating a Track from a reset, you can set a new Track at any stage of a solution, and explore possible paths from there. That allows a single folder to explore many variations of a solution at all stages.
If your purpose is to evolve your own solutions to get your name on the Evolver list, then multiple accounts are, I guess, necessary - but completely outside what the developers hope for in evolving. The purpose of evolving from the developers point of view is to take someone else's solution, provide a different perspective, and make that solution better.
Tracks are a fairly recent innovation in folding that has been enthusiastically embraced by most veteran folders. Tracks will help you to explore what you wish to with any puzzle. Multiple accounts are completely unnecessary, unless, like this poster, you either don't understand how to use them (in which case, please ask in global for help) or have some need to see your name on the Evolver list outside the purposes of Foldit.
" But you know what I do have, I have 15 clones, 10 on one machine ID and 5 on other machine ID."
That is utterly ridiculous in my opinion.
Maybe he have 32core cluster w 128GB ram and run 16 instances at same time and not want to lose any part of solution on crash…
As I mentioned before, I suggest that it would be helpful to tell people how to run multiple instances with and without tracks. This is probably best done on the wiki. Hanto raises some good issues however it is quite difficult for non-technical people to follow.
By instances I do not refer to separate accounts. These personal attacks passing as wisdom are quite unnecessary.
"Tracks" are a recent development in Foldit to offset the difficulties that some players had with keeping multiple clients running. Some people either did not understand how to do it, or had a hard time doing it, so some set up multiple accounts to make it easier for them.
Some people had big difficulties following a logical discussion and chose to descend to personal attacks.
You will still be unable to find any globally shared information about how to 'keep multiple clients running'. Some people do not share information with new players, information is only shared within their group. Any edge this gives them is ascribed to better folding ability rather than as a result of witholding basic housekeeping information.

Clones are evil. We should avoid them. It is killing scoreboard and prevent newcomers to score.
i have used tracks but i prefer using multiple clients (windows). using multiple clients can cause problums on closing if you dont save your scores first. clones can cause big problums for other players trying to score at the top as multiple clones can hog all the top spots and in my opion should not be played competitively.
