Currently the burgeoning Recipe list lets one sort on stars given, next to that is the number of votes given. Unfortunately what one is after at the top of the list is star rating with the largest number of votes.
So this is the top twelve in August 2011, a bit hard to read but shows that for some reason rav's stabilise with one vote is ahead of SP Vincent's Loop Rebuild 2 with twenty four votes.

Given the number of recipes it is not really as helpful as it could be. It is also not clear if Loop Rebuild got 24 votes at 5 stars (probably) or one vote at 5 stars and the rest at one. However any vote above one (not sure if the coder gets to vote on their own recipies)is good as there is no negative voting, just not voting.
Would be good if it was more useful. Especially for new players.
Another odd thing is that recipe used over 4000 times has 1 vote? Maybe there is something wrong which display?
Another one: some recipes have and some not counter "recipe used xxx times" and "average gain xxx points".
Points gain are broken totally (some scripts can only gain like lws and have negative there), but number of usage is interesting.
I am looking into this ticket now.
Fixed the rating sort issue.
now should be sorted by "star" and "number of votes": http://fold.it/portal/recipes?sort=desc&order=Rating.
Example: Highest stars and highest votes should be the top first for rating ( desc )
Nice! Now just change that 1st clik on "RATING" shows higher rating, not 0`s ;]
Gratifying though it is to see a version of Loop Rebuild at the top of the rated recipes list, I'm not sure that sorting first by average rating and then by number of votes is the best way to rank the utility of a script, as the order at the top becomes extremely sensitive to a single non 5-star vote.
Perhaps sorting according to (average_rating)*(number of votes) would be better?
Rating by total number of stars = average * number of vote will put loop rebuild higher than the actual sorting with original "blue fuze", initial "quake", and many walkers.
But it is not why I will choose this sorting, loop rebuild is a great recipe but because this by this sorting, the list will begin only by very old recipes. With a snowball effect, no new recipe will be on the top.
I think the best is average like now.
If you want to avoid that "me an my pal" recipes are ranked before old good ones, you may impose a minimum of votes before ranking.
thanks kxu - that is a lot better - also encourages me to add my stars to recipes I like, much easier to find them.
I'll close this now but of course the other comments above may require it to be reopened, don't want to stop the debate :-)
