When rotating the main view, could the pivot be the center of your viewport, not the center of the protein? It is extremely annoying when working on denovo to have to re-center the protein every time I rotate because it swings from the center.
If you hover your mouse over a segment of the backbone and press Q, the camera center and pivot center will both move to that segment of the backbone. Pressing Q when the mouse pointer is on the background returns both centers to the middle of the protein.
Oh, I did not know it did that as well. Good to know. However, I don't see why center of view shouldn't be default…
Possibly because your 'centre of view' may not contain any part of the protein. Pressing q will recenter the protein when it is "lost".
