For puzzles where we are given a straight chain and told to align it with a guide (like on 202), creating helices then straightening them out is incredibly tedious and frustrating.
Whenever I set the first helix and try to get it to straighten out completely, it will initially appear to straighten, but then "slide through itself", looking like a spring collapsing into itself, before coming out on the other side and finally straightening. For some reason, this seems a little unnecessary. Why can't it just straighten from the beginning?
Also, I have encountered interesting situations where telling a newly-formed helix to straighten will end up straightening the entire protein. The whole protein just twists itself along with the helix, except maybe another helix further down the chain.
Straightening also seems to fail completely when a helix is made at either end of the protein, then a third is made in the middle and told to straighten. It moves a little, but then stops early and won't go any farther.
Overall I find Straighten to be very unpredictable and difficult to use on proteins where the structure has been modified. Can someone look into this?
