The University of Penn State has discovered new hidden polymer symmetries [1]

Previously known

  1. rotation
  2. rotation inversion
  3. translation
  4. time reversal

Discovered

  1. rotation-reversal symmetry A
  2. rotation-reversal symmetry B - they found that rotation-reversal symmetry also exists in paired structures where the partner components lean toward each other (A), then away from each other (B) in paired patterns symmetrically throughout a material.

..the only way to account for further unknown symmetries is with fractals.
