Time for Windows 64-bit binary?

It's honestly a bit surprising to see the most FP-heavy game on my computer is running in 32-bit mode. Perhaps it's time to try a 64-bit Windows release to see whether it will bring about improvements in performance? (The extra general-purpose and XMM registers should do something… right?) Mac and Linux are already using that stuff, and we Windows users want in on the fun too.

(Another interesting thing to explore down this direction could be function multiversioning on really compute-heavy parts. But it looks like you are building Windows stuff with msvc, so no luck there.)

Yes, we are currently investigating this. We probably shouldn't expect increased performance from a 64-bit release, but it is worth a shot. Stay tuned for updates!
