Description

Our WeFold collaborators are asking for your help! They have identified a server model that shows promise, but is clearly an unproteinlike prediction. Because this CASP11 target is so large, our WeFold collaborators tried to manually fix this server prediction on their own... but they are certain that you can do much better than them! We are giving you both the ugly server model and the manual WeFold prediction (along with the Alignment Tool). Since this target is too big to be a regular Foldit puzzle, we are posting it as an 'Extra Credit' CASP11 puzzle. It is only worth 10 points with no categories. More details in the puzzle comments.

We had asked for your feedback about whether we should participate in these larger CASP11 targets:

We have since ignored the bigger CASP11 puzzles, but our WeFold collaborators insisted on this target… so we wanted to give you an opportunity to play this puzzle if you want to without the feeling that you have to play it or else you'll be missing out on points/categories.

This is purely extra credit, so have fun with it if you like, and no regrets if this puzzle is too slow for you!

Here is the sequence logo predicted by the SAM server:

NOTE: Numbering is off as the first 8 residues were trimmed by WeFold

H = helix
E = sheet
C = loop (or coil)

The taller the letter at each position, the higher the probability of that specific secondary structure for that amino acid.

Note that these secondary structure predictions are not necessarily present in the models that have been provided in the puzzle.

so do we get the 10 points if we actually make a effort or do we have to get rank 1 to get the 10 points? (I really am happy to play about with this nice beautiful big one)

Dear Foldit players, on behalf of the WeFolders who insisted on this target I want to thank you for the great work you do. If very seasoned biologists think that you can do a better job than they can at improving the models then you must be really awesome! :) Keep up the great work!
