Way too old to be playing games, but foldit is fun. Although I have a minimal biochemistry background, I am not interested in proteins, protein design, or protein folding.
I have a lecture, Against Evidence-Based Medicine, which argues that medicine, particularly "personalized medicine", is intractable in the complexity theory sense. Protein folding is also intractable in the complexity theory sense. I use foldit as one of my examples of practical non-deterministic finite state like algorithms for solving intractable problems in a limited domain. Foldit is much more interesting than most crowd sourcing algorithms in many ways. One is in using unique human abilities. Spacial reasoning is one. But, more interesting to me are the mind algorithms which we do not understand, hunch, common sense, emotion, subconscious reasoning …
