Not one person from my team was even asked if they'd like to be a global mod. I don't like the selection process used. It's a real slap in the face by not including the community in these decisions. The foldit community had zero say in this and that is wrong on many levels. A few people seem to be power tripping.
Everyone should have been asked if they had interest and the new mods should have been chosen out of that pool of people.
Thank you for your candor, smiling. That's great feedback.
I definitely see opportunities to refine the process going forward. This is something we can explore as a community when the time comes to add more mods.
Waiting until the next event requiring more mods is what created the problem. A process needs to be designed before there is a need to add.
Perhaps, you could create a list of those that would like to be a global mod for the next opening.
Btw, I don't have time currently to be one and my concern isn't for me. I just don't like the method or lack thereof used.
Personally, I think they have good reasons, and they should know best. Ex. they should know who they are and see them on chat to see if they're qualified. And I believe they can tell what they're looking for, as it is their "job". They are all known to be very responsible individuals, and as such, I believe they can make the right decisions.
You do have a good point, however. I personally just think that's a bit harsh…
Take my opinion for what you will, I don't have that much experience, but just a thought.
And we don't have that many people in our group, and of them, I'm not sure any are regularly on global. If there are, I believe that still brings it down to just a couple… Correct me if I'm wrong.
And is there an issue that they're not looking for everyone and their brother to be a mod? As Auntdeen said herself, it is subjective, but they do know what their doing.
Everyone in Go Science was passed up the last time. The group was rank four and had more members at the time. A pattern is showing that requires mods are in the largest three groups.
We still don't have a moderator on the west coast of the US, so time zone isn't taken into proper consideration.
The "cops" don't need to be "helpers". They only need to be able to maintain control of the channels.
Giving the mods the ability to decide on who mods isn't a good idea. It's only a friend thing now.
