We are currently experiencing a problem with our server that will prevent users from signing from the Foldit application or playing Foldit online.
Update: Everyone should now have normally functioning connections to the server again. Thanks for your patience!
Hey everyone,
While we are working on a permanent solution, we have a workaround available:
- Download the file: https://curl.se/ca/cacert-2021-07-05.pem
- Navigate to your Foldit directory on your local machine.
- Copy the downloaded file into the directory Foldit/cmp-resources-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/resources/auth/ (where XXXX) is a big string of numbers and letters) and rename it to cacert.pem (this will overwrite an existing file).
With this, your Foldit should work like normal.
The fix did not work! I am still getting a Certificate Authorization error when I try to open the game online.
"Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates: Error contacting server."
There is no folder with a name like that on mac.
Nope, this didn't work for me. It did connect to the server to update itself, but afterwards without and with the fix, still the same error. Tried both resources subdirectories (I have two for some reason)
Got it working. I used the latest version of cacert from the same website here https://curl.se/docs/caextract.html and it's working perfectly.
Also, note that there may be more resources folders (I thought there were 2, there's actually 3 now).
/Applications/FolditStandalone.app/Contents/Resources/cmp-resources-02d6b4cf65e95aa07b38266b50581477/resources/auth
but when I put it there I still got the error. We may need to import it into the Keychain.
Like kentish_alex, I had multiple cmp-resources folders. I think that's because I had 3 Foldit installations from doing some troubleshooting with beta_helix a couple of years ago. Once I got the new cacert.pem file installed in the correct folders for all 3 installation, the clients worked properly!
