yup, it'll redirct. adding that host line will make foldit think that server is the regular irc.fold.it server. just remember the change so you can reverse it once things go back to normal

In case I ever figure out what IRC is, I wondered why my profile page shows an "IRC nick" as something other than my username (a username I tried to register with but wasn't allowed)? And does this forum have a search function or do you always have to put up with endless repeated newbie questions??

That means there is nothing to reset to get everything working again now that the server is repaired.

If you made changes to the hosts file, you should delete the irc.fold.it line, or comment it out. Comments in a hosts file start with a #.

So in your hosts file, this would remove the entry:

#128.95.1.228 irc.fold.it
