I find I'm constantly doing restore best, and often times have a band embedded in a helix that cannot be seen, or perhaps is not visible from the currect orientation. This then throw off my next moves.
My suggestion is to make each band and lock reduce the score by .0000001 so that when I restore best, I get an unbanded and unlocked model. And to actually keep two "bests", the unlocked and unbanded being the "best", and the locked and banded one being what you get if you restore best and "undo" once. That way if I do want them, I can get them back easily.
Also, if the release bands were grayed out when there are none, that would help recognize that some exist in the current model.
I'd also like each conformation that a long rebuild came up with to be available via undo. So you can come back and step through each one.
Another idea is to be able to undo further back. Especially if you do the above and I've got 20 different conformations from rebuild.
One last thing on the subject. When I reset the puzzle, I'm trying a new beginning. And so when I restore best, I would like it to be the best SINCE that reset. I've already saved my better solution, and given up on pushing it further for the time being. I don't want to see it again unless I restore that saved file. So, if there were two restore best buttons, on restore best overall, and one restore best since reset, that would be one way to achieve this.
I think these features would help gameplay go smoother.
What do other players think? Would you restore back to a clean model, or with all the bands?
