Companion Video Guide for Tutorial Puzzles

I believe foldit needs additional information for the Tutorial Puzzles. I have lost count of the number of new players that have asked and needed extra help, when playing the Tutorial Puzzles.

A good way of teaching people is by showing them how to do something. A video for each Tutorial Puzzle would make learning easier. The video could be made by admin or by selected players. The approved videos could be on Wiki website or Links to the videos on other videos website eg. YouTube.

Screen capture of a player, playing the puzzles would be easy to make.

I feel the original instructions for the Tutorial Puzzles on foldit Wiki need updating.

I'll do this.

I was thinking of posting a speed run of the levels on YouTube, and I'd be happy to post videos of each individual level. I'll also update the wiki page.

Currently the levels are changing day-to-day, so I'll do this in about a week once the levels are ready to stay the same for a while. :p

Thank you for accepting this suggestion, there was a player today  that was having problems with 3-3 puzzle and was asking for help.
This player that i helped with instructions and screen shot to finish the puzzle, then informed me:

"Ok ,that was so easy"

"I can't believe i just spent hours on that"

"Now id did it"

"Thank you  for the help"

Maybe a link to a solution video could appear in-game after a given amount of time spent without reaching the target score.

Madde, as you are talking about ist, you should have a look into this forum thread
http://fold.it/portal/node/985644
which was about "fun in foldit".

I wrote there the same solution because of the same problem which mat747 described:

Also include a point „help“, where is 1. what the player should do 2. a picture of a sucessfull folded version or an guide 3. a video on the complete solving.
I say that because I needed several tries on some of the tutorial levels. I have the impression that they can get stuck in a way that is not solvable if you do only what is expected. [Like the newest one with the flipping: I only succeeded in my sixt try, and there was at least one try where I took he right spot but got stuck (and so tried it on other points of the protein).] If this happens in a tutorial, epecially an early one, there is a good chance that the player says goodbye.

Link to solution video sounds like a good idea. I'll plan on doing that.

LennStar, what is "a point „help“ and when/how would the player see it or find it?

Ah, sorry. I have been very busy lately and forgot about this task. I will put it back on my list

Any suggestions for a good (free) screen capture program?

A few days ago I tried by myself to make a video of an intro puzzle.

Unfortunately my computer is way too slow for Foldit and a screen recorder.

I used Jing (available for Windows and Mac OS X).
