Oftentimes people post strings of text (such as links) to the chat which get cut off by the chat client. It would be good if there were some way to increase the width of the chat to be able to see the parts of strings that were cut off.

Agreed. Very often, people paste URLs in chat that are longer than the width of the screen. Yes, there are programs like TinyURL and Minify that reduce the length of the URL. But as I said in another feedback, keep it simple. Let us resize any window or box we want, to whatever size we want, without the need to use another program.
And while we're at it… how about making all the text in the game chat window copyable, and the URLs into functioning links?
