Fold.it chat is lacking many basic chat features. For instance, when you lose connection, you should be told, and perhaps offered a chance to reconnect.
This suggestion regards making it so that when you lose connection due to timeout, a message appears in chat that says something to the effect of "You've timed out", or in the event that it is impossible to send pings to the server (even though IRC does it all the time) but that it is 'likely' the client has timed out (no messages have been received in #global in the past hour, for instance) a message that says "You've probably timed out", possibly a reconnect button, and possibly gray out or remove the "Send" feature so that client crashes are prevented.
Seeing that there are client crashes happening directly in relation to this feature, I really wanted to put this as [crash/hang][1-high][Bug], and being a webmaster myself, if it were my social community I would expect nothing less from my users, but people get angry, antsy, and bunched up panties around here when you post a high priority item that isn't "Fold.it server software gets deleted when I post a screenshot" or something stupid, so [social][5-low][suggestion]. sigh
