What a pity.
But this is science also: never sure of the outcome.
We'll take it as a challenge for bertro to keep the position alone, and us to try to join him.
A double parallel race. ;)
btw. Oh Katfish: great but I preferred your former profile picture … In our team, we like smiling ones.
To clarify:
There are several options available, all of which are pretty bad.
-
We do what we have now. The score you have to beat is the score from the previous puzzle, and it has all the issues that you guys have been experiencing.
-
We use the new score of the solution in the new puzzle. The problem is that this isn't how evolver is supposed to work - the score to beat should be the highest score ever achieved by the solution. The side effect of ignoring this is that it makes it trivial to evolve any solution from the old puzzle.
-
We don't allow loading in the old solutions at all.
Definitely not 3.
But what I don't understand is the following: Bertro reloads his old solution in the new puzzle, and gets a lower score. If I load this one, i don't understand why I shouldn't' be asked to beat this latest score + 2 points. Now, if I load his old solution from first puzzle, me too I would have a lower score. No?
The problem is the following abuse case:
- Take a high scoring solution in the old puzzle.
- Make a small change, such as moving a single side-chain into a clashing position.
- Load this new solution into the new puzzle and share.
- A teammate loads in this solution and changes the sidechain back to get credit.
This is why evolver requires you to beat that solution's BEST score instead of the current score.
For Evolver Only you could allow loading of only the credit-best autosave (i.e. disallow loading of any other solution with the evolver flag set), and rescore it in the new puzzle, discarding the old high score. The protein must be scored with all conditions met at least once before becoming eligible for further evolving.
This will allow teams to at least continue working on their best fold regardless of changes in the score system.
I'm growing rather attached to the UW Space Needle shot but will consider going back to my toothy self. :D
more a discussion/suggestion than a bug
Nice to see and hear from Kate F
Closing. The discussion is obsolete now I think
