Having just started recently with fold-it, I am still getting used to many parts of the GUI.
Now, almost all of it I have gotten my head around or actually come to feel quite confident and natural about, clearly a lot of thought has gone into the layout.
However, I recently learned to use tracks, what a nightmare! Clearly this function in the game is one of the best tools a folder has in exploring the different methods and folds of a protein. But its layout is entirely counter-intuitive to what the tracks system is doing.
On more than one occasion I have gotten completely lost and spent countless minutes flicking through my tracks to identify which is which; then after working on one for a while, realising I was working on the wrong one - only having to return to the debacle of finding the right one again. As each fold progresses and I use more tracks to try different folding methods and recipes.
How about a phylogenetic tree for tracks? A simple pop up GUI with nodes, notes and vertices with current and best scores on would be incredibly useful and a very easy way of navigating a complicated fold-it tool. It could also be used very quickly and clearly for communicating and identifying strong folding techniques.
Would love to see this implemented at some point!
