When I ask to re-set to best score, it confirms it does this but the score the window above remains the same as does the score in the rank window. Thanks

Sometimes the high score gets lost. There are a couple of places to look for it.

You can restore "credit best" with control + c or "Restore Crdt Best" from the Undo menu (alt + u).

If that doesn't work, try the "show auto and quicksaves" checkbox on the "Open/Share Solutions" menu (control + o). Sometimes a high score is hiding in there, usually as an auto save. (Those are "credit best", "very best", "recent best" and "current".)

If you try opening one of those auto saves, you may notice that it loads at a lower score. So, if it shows 32,970 points in the open/share window, it may only load at 32,950. It's not clear why this happens, but it tends to be an issue on the larger, more complicated puzzles.

The only good thing about a bogus high score is you can usually catch it if there's enough time. So the 32,950 may get back to the 32,970 and beyond if you continue working on it.

If you use tracks, each track has its own credit best. So if you're in track "T1" and then crash, you'll need to change back to "T1" after restarting to get your high score. (Foldit always restarts in the "default" track.)

If you're using more than one Foldit (more than one machine and/or more than one Foldit directory), each one is going to have its own high score. Finding the high score can be tricky in this scenario.

Somewhat related, in some cases, you may find a "missed gain", a gain that a recipe fails to notice. Recipes don't always check the score after every single thing they do. So if a recipe does steps 1, 2, and 3, it may only check the score after 3 is done. If step 2 improves the score, but step 3 lowers it, you have a missed gain. Restoring credit best once the recipe is done should fix this issue.
