Today I tried this out.
I clicked on the button and I crashed. Twice.
(Crashed means foldit vanished w/o a message.)
Maybe it's because I have no buddies yet.
OS: WinXP Pro SP3

Now I tried the Buddies-button at my laptop (OS: WinXP Home SP3).
Result: foldit crashed with an error message.

I believe I've tracked down the issue, and it should be fixed shortly with the next update. Thank you for the feedback.
