Since the downtime, I have not been able to enter group chat. Leaving and rejoining the group failed to remedy the problem.
Entry into group chat denied.

Can you join the group chat through an IRC client? Just try join the channel indicated on the group page.

Their names are no longer on the access list for the groups, I don't see how trying to get in with a separate IRC client will fix that…
Before the chat server change the access list's showed: VC 30 users, AHAP 53, RDF 195. now its VC 19, AHAP 44, RDF 177 users
Also, I have not seen the unban cron job run in the last 2 hours, so leaving and rejoining is probably not helping anybody.

Isn't this just a matter of sticking the missing folk back on the access list for each group? Or is it really something more complex than that? With time running out for this week's puzzles, I feel at a distinct disadvantage!

I have just checked and findiggleirc seems to be on the access list fine. If findiggle isn't, you should follow the suggestion in the FAQ to leave and re-join the group.
