When I run foldit minimized for a while, then open it, it freezes and says not responding on the top. Blank screen (on client) and waiting mouse pointer too. Not a big deal, but thought it might be good to inform.

Also, sometimes it resolves quickly, other times it takes a little while.

First time I maxamize (before I open another window on top of it) it just didplays what is behind it and the top bar. I am using windows 7.

This will happen when you have void showing on.
Make sure that is off before minimizing.
Somehow the void animations get buffered and while these are processed the screen will do nothing.
I was also bitten by this last year and thought it were the popping sounds.

Oh wow, is this true? Is this the bizarre minimizing blanking-for-30-minutes bug? I couldn't figure out why it only sometimes happened! Can't wait to confirm this so I can start minimizing my windows again! Thank you!

Bump. May be related to other feedbacks about GUI hangs on minimize.
There's no telling how many people are being bitten by this, especially since the tutorials tell us to show the voids. Leaving it minimized overnight is the same as a crash since you're going to kill it before it wakes up, anyways.
