Error during initial update, then subsequent errors at startup

Initial update after install:
Binary OK.
During DB update, possibly at end of that phase (but with overall progress showing ~50%):

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
what(): basic_string::_S_construct null not valid
Aborted

On subsequent runs:

And yet the game opens and appears to work. I suspect from the above that the DB download was incomplete & the resultant DB not really usable. Is there a way to force the update to be rerun?

I have marked this as a crash/hang - bug as I don't see anything else that's a closer match :/ Obviously, feel free to change that :)
