leaderboards, objectives block have nearly unreadable fonts in new update

I just had the newest version uploaded into "Main". The fonts on the leaderboards and the objectives block look like they were made with a 1990's dot matrix printer. They are difficult to read, and they look AWFUL.

Please revert the fonts back to whatever they were pre-update. It wasn't broke… it shouldn't have been "fixed".

It would seem that the old fonts were made from vector graphics, and the new fonts are made from raster/bitmap graphics, if you need a direction in which to look.

Hey Boots, can you send me a screenshot so I can see what you're seeing? You can just post a screenshot to #veteran and tag me (@Josh), I'll find it.

I'll do you one better, Josh.

I took a screenshot of the leaderboard for a current puzzle and a screenshot of the leaderboard from a puzzle from several months ago, and placed them one above the other for comparison on a .jpg file.

You can find it here:

The old font is (literally) clearly better.

Hi Boots,

We've switched our font to Noto Sans, which we believe to be much more readable. We've chosen the Noto Sans family because its other fonts can also support many languages which our previous default font did not.

Honestly, this font looks terrible. It looks like it was made with a 1980's dot-matrix printer. It's murder on me ol' eyes. Is there nothing cleaner that has the language support you need?

Hi Boots,

We will continue listening to player feedback — if it becomes clear that this font is affecting many players, we will look into alternatives. In the meantime, please consider this workaround to use any font you'd like:

  1. Navigate to the folder Foldit/cmp-resources-…/resources/fonts
  2. Delete NotoSans-Regular.ttf
  3. Copy into this folder any ttf font file you'd like
  4. Rename your newly added font to NotoSans-Regular.ttf
