Style over functionality

  1. The double spacing used everywhere in New Foldit makes reading content quickly much much slower and harder. No, I don't think this is just one of those things we just need to adapt to and get used to. It is an example of the triumph of style, esthetics, artiness, etc over function, readability, comprehension and speed. The last is paramount. The main reason we get frustrated with something on foldit, old or new, is time wasted. This style fetish which is now ubiquitous is found in Microsoft, Google, Aol. et alia, ad infinitum. This is NUTS. I say this not as a philistine or an obsessive compulsive, but as someone who is considered by his friends as an artist who is quite advanced in the understanding of color and space . (I merely describe myself as someone who doodles with oil paint.). There is a place for ART and there is place for efficient function. Function should come first here. We are not fingerpainting. There other examples of this.
2 The elimination of columns and boxes as archaic and not cool. Try to read the recipe pages and see who wrote them and when. Hard work. TIME wasted. This is appended to the recipe title no matter the length of the title and moreover in another classic example of style over physiology and common sense. No Virginia Medium-Light grey over lighter gray or greyish white is not conducive to comprehension. In the old fogey format you could see a recipe page in 2 seconds. Now maybe 20+? A TIME waster.
3.BTW Currently the response time of New Foldit Game and Community is laggy. Probably will be easily fixed.
  2. But what the heck. I am an old geezer. And the kids know best, eh. Appreciate your indulgence..

I would upvote this a million times… if the staff hadn't taken away that feature. And I have kept my mouth shut over the awful… no… atrocious design of this site, for fear of having my account "mysteriously" disappear.

Another upvote. I detest the amount of white/blank space on new website designs in general (i.e. not just fold.it).
Function should come before form every time.

I agree. The large amount of whitespace has the effect, probably contrary to intent, of making content much harder to read. There's too much scrolling and clicking needed to read a blog post or look at lists.

I agree, the client also suffers from this with odd colors that have no functional meaning, fonts that all of a sudden are hard to read and functionalities that do not make sense to those who actually USE this program. See my separate comments on opening and closing popups, use of unintuitive hotkeys (ESC for a menu which is also STOP CURRENT ACTION) etc.
