(answered) Expectation management

When I read there is a devprev release, my expectation is that significant bugs were fixed.
It is then disappointing to read nothing about serious bugs being fixed or investigated, but again new features being introduced.
A mention of "we're working hard on the reported bugs < x,y and z >, but they take more time". would help manage expectations

  • Show the score with a strikethrough if you are playing a Beginner puzzle as a non-beginner.
  • Add a Compound Library objective
  • Better handling of stereoisomers in the compound library.
  • Fixes a bug where expired puzzles are not displayed in the Science Puzzles menu.
  • Added ability to target atoms with tutorial labels.
  • Updated The Ligand Design tutorials "Inside the Pocket" and "Fun With Fragments" to have labels point more accurately to the atoms of interest. This should help players complete the tutorial.

I apologize if it seems like we're not taking bug reports seriously – we do, and we're frequently discuss them in our internal meetings. However, it's often the case that in prioritization scientific support features gets bumped ahead of bugfixes. For example, the Compound Library objective feature is based on the results we've been seeing that indicate on-library compounds aren't being incentivized as well as we'd like. To try to get as many good library compounds for the CACHE submission deadline at the end of November, we want to roll out that objective soon. There's also knock-on effects from other ongoing efforts. The "better sterochemistry handling" is one of those - it's an update which was needed for the Compound Library objective. – It's not that we're ignoring the bugs, it's just that we want to make sure that Foldit maximizes the science, and new features were judged to be important in doing so.

So please do continue to report bugs – we do pay attention to them, even if the fixes don't make it into the next devprev. (BTW, the more descriptive and precise you can be about what the bug is and how to reproduce it – particularly if you can come up with a step-by-step reproduction case which consistently demonstrates the issue on multiple computers/accounts – the less effort it takes for us to debug things on our end, and the easier it is to slip in a fix.)

To @rmoretti I understand that science is a priority, and that we have a limited budget and therefore limited personnel to deal with the issues we raise. Nevertheless when we are given broken (in the broad sense) tools and nothing gets done on the problems with the web site regarding organization, function, loss or information, and yes even presentation, it may have the effect of perceiving Foldit in a fuzzy manner. A place where it's too much trouble to look things up because it's too cumbersome. An, that may lead to less caring. I just don't bother to look up the things I used to look up very easily. I find myself distanced by many of the issues reported and my desire somewhat less energetic than I was before. (No, not burn-out yet). So maybe that's not so good for science.
