I haven't been able to log into chat server in days. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm in the middle of some long-running scripts, so re-starting the clients is not an option… at least for a few days.

Yes, chat has been down for days now. We can ask @jflat06 to have a look.
Any newly started Foldit clients apparently can't connect to IRC.
If Foldit is already running, it can apparently remain connected to IRC. Foldit also seems to be able to reconnect when chat disconnects. (Based on my external chat logs, the chat server is disconnecting every day or two.)
We've been down to me, jeff101, ecali, and FolditDiscordBot in chat for several days now.
Meantime, external IRC clients can connect to the Foldit chat server, but authentication isn't working. So anyone can connect to any IRC channel, including group channels.
The console log for my external chat has some interesting stats:
[12:45.31] -127.0.0.1- There are 29 users and 0 invisible on 1 servers [12:45.31] -127.0.0.1- There are 1 unknown connections [12:45.31] -127.0.0.1- There are 6 channels formed [12:45.31] -127.0.0.1- I have 29 clients and 0 servers [12:45.31] -127.0.0.1- Current Local Users: 29 Max: 153 [12:45.31] -127.0.0.1- Current Global Users: 29 Max: 153
It's not clear to me why it thinks there are 29 users or what the 6 channels are. Maybe the "users" count includes cached connections. If so, the cache is pretty stale at this point. Otherwise, if the "user" count represents a user connected to channel, I only come up with 16 users and 5 channels.
I've restarted our IRC services, which should fix this.
I'm not sure why it went down.
Yay, chat is back, thanks jflat06!
Back for me, too. Thank you!
Good to hear, @BootsMcGraw can you please edit the title and add ' (resolved) ' in front of the text ?
It's been a while, but once again, Foldit clients can't get into chat. NickServ is not running, so authentication fails. External users can access any channel.
Slow report here, but chat is back. The team has pledged to improve chat startup to include the related services.
